The beauty of Taiwan – Taipei City – Red House
Red House is a very popular site for travelers to visit in Taipei because it is so easy to get there. Take any MRT and then head to Ximen station on Blue or Green line. The exit is Number 1.
About Red House, it built in 1908, is Taiwan's first public market and the most well-preserved class III historical site. The main lobby is an exhibition area for visitors to know the history of Red House. The second flower used to be a cinema for independent films, but it has transformed to be a theater nowadays. The space behind the building is an art district where you can find local artists’ creations and merchandises. It will take you a while to browse all designers’ wonderful ideas. Please don’t hesitate to encourage Taiwanese designers there!!
Just next to Red House is an area for LGBT folks. You may not recognize it in the daytime, but when the sun goes down, the area is showing its energy and pride. The place is full of bars and restaurants. If you don’t mind to share a table or hang out with gay people, the spot can definitely heat you up for the night and make you know how crazy the nightlife in Taipei can be. Taiwan is really the most gay-friendly nation in Asia.
Cross the street, it is Ximen district where is a wonderful place to shop and enjoy local foods. The place is also a popular spot for Taiwanese teenagers. You will see a lot of high school students wearing uniform hanging out on the street. You may also encounter cosplay lovers appearing there. At night, street performers show up and add laugh and applause in the air.
Even though Red House has been hundreds of years, it is standing there to embrace the spirit of youth and the change of era!
